What is Rural medicine?
Rural medicine is a specialized field of healthcare that focuses on delivering medical services in sparsely populated, remote, or underserved areas, typically located outside urban centers. This branch of medicine encompasses the unique challenges and healthcare needs of rural populations, which may include limited access to healthcare facilities, a shortage of medical professionals, and a prevalence of specific health issues associated with rural lifestyles and environments. Rural medicine practitioners often adapt their approach to suit the available resources and aim to provide comprehensive, emergency and preventative/long term patient-centered care while addressing the distinct healthcare disparities and concerns of rural communities. From a personal perspective, I love the diversity of people and presentations, and the challenge that comes with that, as well as love the freedom, and necessity to commit to a lifelong journey of learning.
