Get to know your Physician…
“Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, I was fortunate to have three sisters and an abundance of rivers, forests and mountains in which to explore, while maintaining a strong connection to the inner city…
A strong and spoken moral of staying humble, working hard, gratitude, treating people equally and being one’s “true authentic self” was taught by my family. Through my childhood I spent many days and nights in the hospital, but rather as a patient, inducing my personal need to return that favour. I later spent five years volunteering at that very Children’s Hospital in which I was born and treated. This common theme of volunteerism continued through high school and university, both locally and internationally - specifically throughout Mexico, Ecuador and the Indian Himalayas. These experiences, and the privilege that comes with being a born and raised Canadian, are the reasons for why I have committed my life to serving and bettering my local community, as well as spending at least 1-2 months a year doing the same in communities within the 3rd world, and most recently in Hawaii - a very special place to generations of my family. (If helping out internationally interests you, please contact me!)
My schooling took me through the University of British Columbia - Vancouver, the University of Sydney, UBC’s Southern Medical Program - Kelowna, and finally residency at the University of Alberta. The challenge, continuity, and diversity of practice offered by rural medicine made it an obvious yet initially unexpected choice for me; the excitement of critical care and ability to use my hands to perfect procedural work in emergency medicine, and yet the intimate personal relationships, continuity and preventative nature of family/functional medicine. My work in Elder and palliative care lead me into psychedelic research, leadership and volunteerism as well as nutritional research with an aim at reducing suffering, unnecessary medications and making the golden years less rusty and more radiant.
On the weekends you’ll catch me finding live music, working outside on various projects/Ki Haven, with family/friends, or in nature: climbing mountains, boarding (paddle, kite, surf, snow, long), motorcycling, or mountain biking. Lets dance, lets laugh, lets ride!
